The Beast Conquered!

Despite the dry lead up to the Big Day, The Beast did not disappoint in the mud stakes! Ten bold Striders (plus friends) turned up dressed as Kerikeri oranges, though we ended the morning more like chocolate oranges as we were so caked in mud. It was really good fun, at some points we were commando crawling through swamps and up to our necks in mud pits. Just in case anyone was clean, Shirley was ambushing them with mud bombs, and even kindly gave me a big muddy hug. In the melee of the boggy start we became separated from the Bartletts, who were looking gorgeous, accessorised with face paint and wigs; Gary (tutu fabulous); Matt (Ninja style in black) and Tom and Rebecca (one of the top finishers even in a tutu!). Andy, John, Kerry, Sally and I were performance impaired by the state of our mudlogged tutus and total lack of balance… Big shout out to Grant who finished 5th out of almost a thousand.
We can’t wait to do it again next year, coming?

Kerikeri Half Marathon

It’s on its way – The Kerikeri Half Marathon, 17th November 2018
The Beast!

Love the squelch of mud in the morning? Then the Beast is waiting for you!! Some hardy Strider walkers and runners have teamed up for this event on 7th July. Proudly dressed in Kerikeri orange they will overcome 7km of boggy swamps; ankle-deep mud; chilly streams and best of all hills so steep there are ropes to aid ascent.
Why would anyone do this? Its fun! No, it really is!! We’ll let you know how we get on…
